A bird on the head is worth twelve in the bush

I was up with the larks this morning. OK, that's a slight exaggeration, I was up at 7.15am, which would probably be a bit late for larks if they actually had any here. I was press ganged into having a quick shower by Claire - "your legs are fine, they don't need shaving yet". Last time I take hair removal advice from Claire, they are actually at the "visible from a distance stage". Urgent action required this evening.

Anyway, Claire, Stuart and I left fairly early to start the long journey to Jervis Bay. It took us about 3 hours, which as Stuart pointed out is quite a long time for a Brit to travel to a beach just for one day. We arrived, a bit later than everyone else (to some moaning), and immediately started on the picnic, which was once again enough to feed a small army.

Peter had somewhat rebelliously brought some bird seed with him, and despite the "DO NOT FEED THE BIRDS" signs, after the picnic Claire and I took some bird seed and went off in the direction of some loud squawking.
There were a few Rainbow Lorikeets lurking in the trees, eyeing us quite suspiciously. I thought they were too scared to come near us when all of a sudden one flew over and landed on my head, and before I knew it there were three of them on me!

They are lovely birds to look at but they are evil when they put their mind to it. One of them kept biting my hand when it couldn't get any food, and I have scratch marks all over my wrists from their claws.
We eventually flung the birds off and went down to the beach.

The beach had pristine white sand that Kim would have loved had she not been at work. The sea was calm with virtually no waves and we went in for a swim twice. The second time we saw something weird in the sea that Claire was pretty sure was a sea snake. I have almost managed to convince myself that it was a long piece of seaweed.

We spotted Auriel and Peter leaving the beach and hurriedly got out of the water as we thought they were going to go without saying goodbye. (I was secretly relieved to get away from the sea snake as well).
I was a little disturbed to almost get a used condom stuck to my foot, which was an item that is fortunately few and far between on the beaches we have been to so far.

We are spending the evening with Di and Lewis and Irene, and I am having a whale of a time gossiping about Claire.

Tomorrow we are going to Coogee which is near Sydney, to spend our last two nights in a (hopefully) swanky hotel.
