More scary creatures

Central Coast day 3

Today we have been lazy. We spent some time on the beach (I'm not sure how long because I fell asleep). Claire and I went swimming in the sea, which went pretty smoothly considering the lack of Beach Police. I was a bit peeved when Kim told us she had heard a kookaburra in the trees while we were gone.

While we were there, an Asian family arrived, the men and boys dressed in swimming trunks and the women and girls in full length clothing including head coverings. They all raced into the sea, the females fully clothed, and were completely soaked within seconds. They had to go as soon as they got out of the water as they were all in soaking wet clothes and couldn't get changed. I was relieved to be able to stretch out and dry out in the sun instead.

In the afternoon we went out to get more food and Kim was startled by a huge lizard called Russell outside the apartment (when I say startled I mean she screamed and jumped in the air). She swears it was of almost crocodile proportions, at least 3 foot long (and that was just it's tail). We have named him Russell because he shot off into the undergrowth, rustling in a menacing way. We haven't seen him again but we have heard him rustling around. Fortunately I think he is too big to sneak into the apartment, and of course, we would hear him anyway.

As I'm sure you have noticed, we managed to find a free wi fi hotspot in McDonalds and uploaded the two previous blogs. I avoided the cheeseburgers as they make me go a bit funny, but did have a Krispy Kreme custard filled chocolate doughnut. Mmm.

In the evening we went back to The Entrance for dinner. We took a slight detour on the way in the hope of stumbling across a quaint waterside restaurant (the sort that looks like a crumbling old shack but serves the best food ever). Unfortunately we were unsuccessful but did come across yet more spiders, which were even bigger than the last ones. I am not ashamed to say that I turned into a pathetic wimp, made worse by Claire tormenting me by making spider noises.

After dinner we had ice cream. It was good but obviously not as good as Snugbury's. I don't know how Claire managed hers, it was so sickly; cake mixture flavour with added Crunchie bits. We all feel a bit sick now.

We have discussed tomorrow at length and decided to go to the driving range and then be lazy again on the beach. I will be on the lookout for the kookaburra this time.
