Sunburn

Today started with the body clocks behaving a bit more normally. We got up to a overcast day which soon turned into rain. Not to be put off, we donned our bikinis, packed our beach towels and headed off to Botany Bay, the site of Captain Cook's landing all those years ago.

On arriving, the rain had stopped but the skies were still grey.  Looking outside, I was a bit worried I was going to be cold but was met with a wave of muggy heat as soon as I opened the car door. After a stroll along the beach we moved round the coast to the aptly named Little Bay where we had the beach to ourselves, so were able to say that we were the most tanned on it.

After a little while an old chap wandered up and started chatting Kim up. I pretended to be asleep, presuming he was some sort of beach perve. However, he turned out to be an Aborigine who claimed to be a guru in both self help books and collecting golf balls.  I don't think he was a perve after all.

We then headed off for some seafood lunch at a seafront restaurant.  Both Kim and I suffered from quite bad food envy on seeing Claire's seafood basket, the highlight of which was the calimari.  My seafood salad had a few too many tentacles and also confirmed my suspiscion that oysters are not all they're cracked up to be.  I was also a bit disappointed that there weren't any pearls in them but I'm told that's quite normal.

After some cake to weigh us down, we went back to the beach for a swim. I have to confess I was a bit of a wimp to start with.  The water was freezing compared to my sun baked (but still deathly pale) body. Managed to avoid getting into any encounters with any stingrays, which had been on my mind as the original name for Botany Bay was actually Stingray Harbour.

On getting out of the water I was amused to note that both the Australian resident Kim and the former Egypt resident Claire had got some interesting sunburn shapes on their backs.  As the sensible English girl I remain as white as porcelain.  Not sure if that's a good or a bad thing.  Anyway, I am now the official sunburn manager.

We're now just exchanging the Beach Look for the Just Showered look before going out for a pizza and to meet up with Kim's mysterious and much talked about friend Telly.

Tomorrow Claire and I are off to Manly for a couple of days on our own.
For the sake of all you blog addicts, I hope we are able to find a wi-fi hotspot while we're there.

Still no photos as they won't let me put their sunburn marks online.
